2009 Graduation Ceremony to be held at Sears Centre
Libertyville High School is pleased to announce that the graduation ceremony for the class of 2009 will be held at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates on Friday, June 5, 2009. After each graduation ceremony, members of the faculty, staff and administrators review graduation activities to identify ways to improve the overall experience for everybody involved. Among the most serious areas in need of attention as cited by reviewers include convenience, comfortable seating, handicapped access, the heat and humidity in the facility, the quality of the sound system and parking. In order to be considered as a graduation venue, a new facility would have to be large enough to accommodate the size of the crowd that usually attends the ceremony.
During the summer, a group of students, parents, staff members and both the district and school administrators visited the Sears Centre to see firsthand the arena and to ask questions of facilities management staff. We liked what we saw.
We returned to the District to research comparative costs and to discuss the merits of moving the ceremony. The Administration’s recommendation was warmly received by the Board of Education. The new venue offers the school many new opportunities to celebrate our graduates’ achievements. If you would like to learn more about the Sears Centre, please visit their website at http://www.searscentre.com/arena/venue.aspx .

LHS Math Team Receives Grant from ExxonMobil
Libertyville High School has once again received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program. This year's grant will be used to support the LHS Math Team's participation in competitions. Team members are pictured at the check presentation with Team Head Coach Rick Brenner and Co-principal Mike Stevens. John and Young Kim, owners of the Mobil Station at 1185 W. Park Ave., Libertyville, worked with school officials to secure the grant which is one of 4,000 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations. The grants are made possible by funding from the ExxonMobil Corporation, and are designed to provide its retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities. (photo by B.J.
